Emebet Mulugeta (Ph.D)

Academic Vice President (AVP) of Addis Ababa University

Emebet Mulugeta (Ph.D) has been appointed as an Academic Vice President (AVP) of Addis Ababa University, the first female AVP since the establishment of AAU in 1950.

Dr. Emebet has received her BA in Psychology from Addis Ababa University, her M.Ed. in Developmental Psychology and Ed.D. in Psychological Foundations of Education, from the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.

She is an Associate Professor of psychology at Addis Ababa University, teaching and conducting research at the Center and for Gender Studies and School of Psychology. She has over 20 years of experience in teaching and research. She took over the Center for Research Training and Information and Development (CERTWID), currently called Center for Gender Studies (CGS), immediately after its establishment, to nurture it to develop into a prominent academic institution that runs an MA program in Gender Studies and conducts research to feed in into policy and practice. She is also the founder and director of Nia Center for Children and Family Development (NiaCCFD), an office that endeavors to provide high-quality services in the areas of families, children and gender through research, counseling, training, and consultancy. She is one of the women featured in Temsalit, a book that was prepared by the Network of Ethiopian Women Association (NEWA), which presented exemplary women of Ethiopia. She has been an AWiB member since its foundation and has served as a judge for Women of Excellence (WOE) Titleholder selection in 2016.
