“Authenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day. It’s about the choice to show up and be real. The choice to let our true selves be seen.” Brene Brown

Authenticity is all about being true to yourself and living in accordance to your beliefs and values. Authentic people are genuine and express their thoughts and emotions without trying to conform to external expectations. They are self-aware and embrace their unique attributes and acknowledge their limitations without fearing judgment or rejection.

Authenticity is also about being honest and transparent to others and taking responsibility for actions. Authentic people show vulnerability and don’t hide their emotions or struggles. They don’t pretend to know everything and are open to learn new things from the people around them. They are comfortable in their own skin and don’t feel the need to constantly compare themselves to others. They also set boundaries and don’t let others to dictate their thoughts, actions and decisions.

Authenticity is about staying true to our passions and desires without letting social expectations and pressures from others dictate our life choices. It is about exploring what life beyond being “polite” looks like.

Upon completion of this RTD, you will:

Reflect on the inquiries “What does to be authentic mean to me?” “When and where am I being authentic in my life and not? Why?”
Identify and explore important truths you haven’t been willing to tell yourself or others
Explore what gifts authenticity can bring into our lives, relationships and work
Learn tips and practices to be more authentic

This Round Table Discussion (RTD) will be facilitated by Aster Asfaw, Freelance Consultant.
