Sisterhood is a deep connection and loyalty among women with common interests. It can be rooted in blood relatives, religious bodies, formal associations, informal associations (like Idir, mahiber and Iqub) and it can also represent the bond between women who support women’s movement. Sisterhood is a supportive community of women who have a common agenda.
Sisterhood is very important because women need women and thrive better when they have a sense of belongingness. Scientific studies have established that sisterhood is good for our health. But it goes way beyond the realm of the physical. In sisterhood women are empowered because in sisterhood you’re essential, and what you say, feel, and think matters. Being supported is a big part of sisterhood. When you have support standing in your own power becomes easy and you become the leader of your own life.
We live in a male dominated world and it isn’t run by love & compassion. It is run by competition instead of collaboration, by opposition rather than support. How do we create everlasting sisterhood for ourselves in this world?
