Spotlighting Excellence: Looking back at 8 years of WOE

The essence of excellence is better seen and felt than put to words.  Yet, AWiB writes stories, takes photos and produces documentaries about remarkable women of Ethiopia.  Today, we revel in looking back at eight years of Women of Excellence celebrations as recognition of AWiB’s 10-year anniversary.

Throughout HER 10-year history, AWiB has proved HER mission by impacting the lives of hundreds of women to be leaders in politics, business, community and academia.  As a trend-setter, the organization “unleashing potential” of Ethiopian women has brought in the Addis Ababa community—and popularized—the concept of networking and more practitioners as well as instituted the culture of dialogue and culture of appreciation.

While there are successful programs year-round at AWiB, Women of Excellence stands out to those who have experienced it.  The gala dinner is held every October at Sheraton Addis, highlighting extraordinary Ethiopian women of different backgrounds—those who have built themselves and their communities.  These are women who quietly toil at projects in the trenches, too busy to draw attention.  AWiB puts the spotlight on excellence.  This is how AWiB reaches the grassroots—through projects the incredible women tirelessly put their hearts and souls deep into building, maintaining, and evolving for the betterment of society.  We see a better Ethiopia through them.  WOE has developed a culture of celebration, having honored 53 women thus far, showcasing role models for generations to come.

Over the years, AWiB has created a sound database of capable and dynamic women leaders that we have promoted and made visible as indispensible and impactful resources.  Through the excellent stories of these women, we continue to learn, grow, and emerge together as AWiB has done from HER conception.
