On April 22, 2025, alumni and guests gathered to celebrate the centennial of Tafari Makonnen Polytechnic College (TMPTC) and the reinstatement of its renowned name. Initially known as Tafari Mekonnen School (TMS), the institution was established and funded by Crown Prince Ras Tafari Mekonnen in 1925, before being crowned Emperor Haile Selassie I in 1930.
