
Hana Melese Maru

Hana Melese Maru is an Environmental Engineer and a self-taught artist. She formerly served as AWiB’s Project Coordinator, where her main responsibilities included assessing AWiB’s needs, identifying potential projects, submitting proposals, defining project scopes, preparing implementation plans, and maintaining regular contact with external partners throughout the project lifecycle. She coordinated and executed various components of projects, such as organizing events, workshops, and meetings related to women’s leadership empowerment, while effectively managing project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure successful implementation of project activities.
In addition to her professional experience, Hana published her first poetry book titled “ተረቱ እና እውነቱ” as an undergraduate and founded Akababinet, an initiative promoting green skills and practical learning for students. This project earned recognition as one of 25 innovative youth-led solutions under the climate education theme at the Youth4Climate Sparking Solution event in Rome, organized by the Italian government and UNDP.
Hana’s leadership and dedication also led to her selection for the prestigious Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) program, reflecting her proven ability to lead and drive meaningful change.
