Understanding Honesty Recap

Understanding Honesty was a Round Table Discussion (RTD) facilitated in two sessions (morning and afternoon) by Maskerem Haile on July 5, 2025. The sessions began with a powerful question: “Honesty begins with oneself—but ask yourself, why do I want to be a better human being?”

Radical honesty is about being completely open and truthful, even when it’s uncomfortable or difficult. It means expressing your thoughts, feelings, and needs without filters or deception, striving for authenticity and transparency in your interactions with both yourself and others.

Honesty is more than simply avoiding lies. It is truth-speaking and truth-telling. Our subconscious mind stores all our core memories and often hides them to protect us. Being honest starts with courageously facing that inner world.

  1. Honesty brings a sense of freedom, recognition, and belonging

Set aside 5–10 minutes each day to remind yourself: “I am on a journey.” Ask yourself: Can I experience myself fully? Can I just be myself and be okay with that?

  1. Be Truly Yourself

Being truly yourself means letting go of the need to perform or please. It’s about showing up as you are without masks, without editing your essence. You don’t have to shrink to fit in or pretend to be more in order to feel worthy. Eat what you want. Eat what you feel.

  1. The Capacity to Be There for Others

Being honest with yourself deepens your ability to show up for others. When you are grounded in your own truth, you become a safer space for those around you. You can listen without judgment, offer support without trying to control, and extend trust without fear clouding your view. Reflect: Do I trust others? Can I take things at face value? Can I give people the benefit of the doubt?
