Stress Management Recap

Stress management workshop was facilitated by Megbar Ayalew, Founder of the Art of Living. Stress can be defined as a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances.

Stress can come from peer, social media, and parental pressure, as well as news exposure and political or economic conditions. Personal factors like loss, relationship conflicts, job insecurity, fear of judgment, negative self-talk, high expectations, and constant comparison also contribute significantly.

Stress often shows up as irritability, anxiety, shallow breathing, mental confusion, muscle tension, and physical symptoms like cold feet, and over time it can lead to health issues such as hypertension and diabetes. Stress levels can be measured using tools like the Perceived Stress Scale, where scores indicate low, moderate, or high stress and help determine when professional support is needed. Managing stress is a balance of healthy habits such as proper sleep, nutrition, exercise, mindfulness, social connection, and practical techniques like deep breathing, time management, and setting boundaries, including learning to say no.
