Self-Promotion Recap

On Saturday afternoon, October 25, AWiB members gathered for an interactive seminar on self-promotion. The session began by inviting participants to introduce themselves and share one quality they are proud of — a simple but meaningful activity that set the tone for celebrating personal strengths.

The discussion focused on self-promotion as the art of communicating one’s value to the world confidently, authentically, and without shame. Participants explored how societal conditioning, especially for women, often discourages speaking about personal achievements. This led to honest reflections on the barrier’s women face, including fear, uncertainty, judgment, and imposter syndrome.

Yodit emphasized that self-promotion is not arrogance rather it is an act of service. When we share our skills, accomplishments, and purpose, we allow others to recognize how we can contribute and create impact. As she stated, “Word of mouth starts with you.”

Throughout the seminar, members shared personal challenges and experiences, discussing how to navigate perceptions and biases while still promoting themselves with clarity and confidence. The facilitator highlighted key strategies such as reframing negative thoughts, focusing on value, celebrating small wins, seeking feedback, and consistently showing up.

To reinforce the learning, members paired up and practiced promoting themselves to a partner. Each partner then shared the other’s strengths to the group, a powerful exercise that built confidence, strengthened community, and deepened understanding among members. This activity demonstrated that when we speak our strengths aloud and allow others to reflect them back, we gain clarity and courage.

Participants were encouraged to identify what makes them unique and what they want to be known for because knowing one’s distinct value is the foundation of effective self-promotion.
