Life Balance Recap

“Balance is not something you find; it’s something you create.”

On April 5, a new session on Life Balance was facilitated by Aster Asfaw. The session reminded us that work or career is just one part of life. Life balance doesn’t mean every area gets equal attention—it’s about creating harmony among the different parts of life. The key is to find the balance that works best for you.

Causes of imbalance

  • Financial Pressures – Economic stress or fear of losing income can drive overwork.
  • Lack of Support Systems – Absence of help with household duties, parenting, or emotional needs.
  • Inequitable Responsibilities – Carrying an unfair share of responsibilities at work or home.
  • Societal Definition of Success – External success is often tied only to career or wealth, not well-being.
  • Perfectionism – Trying to do everything perfectly can lead to burnout.
  • People-Pleasing – Avoiding disappointment or conflict at the cost of your own well-being.
  • Imposter Syndrome – Believing you’re not good enough, despite evidence of your abilities.
  • Set Boundaries – Learn to say no.
  • Prioritize – Focus on what aligns with your values and long-term goals.
  • Know Your Current Season – Life harmony isn’t a fixed formula; it shifts with the season of life you’re in.
