AWiB proudly celebrates one of HER own: Semhal Guesh, founder and CEO of Kabana Design, for winning the CBI Sustainable Business Award 2025.

Chosen from 62 applications across 21 countries, Kabana Design stood out for its innovative approach to circular fashion, sustainability, and women’s empowerment, a shining example of how business can be both beautiful and beneficial to people and the planet.

Founded by architect-turned-entrepreneur Semhal Guesh, Kabana Design transforms locally sourced leather into timeless, eco-conscious pieces while creating opportunities for women from vulnerable backgrounds. By upcycling nearly all its leather waste, supporting smallholders, and engaging in Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative, Kabana shows that sustainability and style can thrive together.

The CBI Sustainable Business Award, presented during the Sustainable Business in Action webinar on October 7, recognizes companies that embody fair, inclusive, and responsible trade. Kabana’s victory reflects the power of purpose-driven leadership, proof that Ethiopian brands can lead the global conversation on ethical fashion and sustainability.

Beyond her entrepreneurial success, Semhal embodies AWiB’s spirit of boldness and community. From transforming her passion into a business that uplifts women to serving  on AWiB’s Board, she continues to inspire through action, resilience, and purpose.
