Mahlet is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Addis Ababa University, where she completed both her undergraduate and postgraduate studies. She currently serves as Postgraduate Program Coordinator in the Department of Psychiatry, liaising with faculty to manage the specialty certificate in psychiatry.
Her professional work includes clinical service provision, research, and leadership of multi-country mental health projects, collaborating across sectors to improve mental health care in Ethiopia and Africa. Mahlet engages actively in community work and volunteers with Care Epilepsy, providing regular mental health services to members.
She works closely with key stakeholders, including NGOs, CSOs, and government institutions, to ensure that mental health advocacy and service delivery are effective, ethical, and evidence-based. Her professional expertise spans clinical care, program coordination, research, and policy engagement. Mahlet holds undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Psychiatry from Addis Ababa University.
