Mekdes has worked for 16 plus years in leadership positions in CSOs, government institution and private company. She served for many years as a volunteer for Mujejeguwa-Loka Women Development Association.

Currently, she serves on CCRDA’s String Committee of Health Forum and Ethics Panel. Mekdes sits on the Board of Union of Ethiopia Women Charitable Association (UEWCA). 

She holds a Master’s degree in Development Management from Ambo University. She also holds an M.A in Educational Leadership from Ethiopian Theology College (ETC) and a Post Graduate Official Certificate, from Addis Ababa University (AAU) and Jonkoping University (JU) on Executive Community Leadership.
