Destu is the Founder and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Hidaya Development Association (HDA) established in 2010. Destu has more than 20 years of work experience in private business and NGO, serving from project manager to executive director. She is a certified National Master trainer of EMPRETEC entrepreneurship.

Destu owns a consulting firm that works on training and BDS. She has given more than 10,000 hours of consultancy services for organizations and individuals on life coaching, project management, customer service management, and well-being. She is also a board member of the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council Women and Children Board member.

Destu earned a BA in Economics and an MA in social work and advanced executive community leadership from Addis Ababa University.
