As a nation, it is time for us to question why Ethiopia, a religious country with high moral standards became one of the most corrupted states in the world. One of the salient features of a corrupted society is the breakdown of family structure that started during the Derg regime. This broken family structure that had been the foundation of Ethiopian society led to today’s rampant corruption.

In the month of September, AWiB presents “AI Impacting the Creative Industry”.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly stirring up everything and every industry it puts its hand on… or better to say its code on. The creative industry, from music to painting, to graphics design to writing, all are currently in a state of transition. Some see it with skepticism and some utilize it by integrating it within their own creative processes.
In the month of October, AWiB Presents “Creating Shared Vision”. A shared vision is the collective vision that people have regarding what the future will look like. Vision is a very clear picture you can see in your mind and feel in your heart as if it already occurred when doing so. It also needs imagination, clarity and wisdom for it to be shared by many.
This November, we invite AWiBers to invite the men who have supported you, and men please invite the women who have done the same. On our monthly event, we focus on men who support women through their success, our “Men behind She-roes”. Behind every successful man is a strong woman, so the saying goes. In AWiB, we believe this also applies for women and our saying goes- behind every successful woman is a strong man.
Innovation for a sustainable environment is a core focus of AWiB's 2024 theme, "Resilience for Safety and Sustainability," recognizing that a sustainable environment is vital for our future survival. The recent devastating landslide in the Gamo Gofa region, which claimed the lives of around 229 individuals, underscores the urgent need for environmental concern. Gofa, located in Southern Ethiopia, has been severely impacted by heavy rains and flooding, with past incidents dating back years. In May 2016, a minimum of 50 people were killed in floods and landslides following heavy rain across the south of the country. Climate change, resulting in a warmer atmosphere, increases the likelihood of extreme rainfall, contributing to such disasters.

“We need leaders!” is a voice that echoes in every corner, but have we ever paused to ask “Why?”. What kind of leaders do we truly need? If we strip away the noise and look at the simple definition of a leader—someone who guides a group, an organization, a nation—it doesn’t tell us where they’re taking us. Then the comprehensive question we should ask ourselves is “What outcomes are we striving for, and who are the leaders capable of leading us there?”
It is an undeniable fact that harmful attitudes and behaviors towards rape and sexual violence are often overlooked or even accepted in our culture. Many of us know that these acts are wrong yet too few of us take responsibility for addressing the issue. The rise of mass media and the widespread accessibility of stories of sexual violence have not desensitized us; rather, we are overwhelmed.
