“It’s likely we are hardwired to feel emotionally connected to our hair. We’ve associated it with status, wealth, & royalty since ancient times. Thick, rich hair has always represented health & youth, so it continues to mean that to women today.”
Vivian Diller, Psychologist PhD
The idea that we all feel something about our hair is deeply ingrained in us from both social and biological standpoints. What really lays behind this connection we have with our hair, as it turns out, is inherited & far-reaching. Our hair is deeply connected to our identity and wellness. Creating hair-care routines that best work for our hair simplifies our daily lives and we save our hair from possible traumas. Yes, our hair gets traumatized & it is our responsibility to heal and protect it.
With the exception of hair loss, our hair is something that we have power over. We can cut, color, and style it in whatever way we choose, and use it to manipulate other’s perceptions of our identities on any given day. But despite being under our control, our hair also seems to have total power over us. And the resulting relationship can be nothing short of transformative.
