Bersabel Yoseph

Hi, my name is Bersabel, I am currently a 4th year student at Kotebe University of Education, studying psychology. I am interested in pursuing a career as a child and adolescent psychologist. I have done an internship at Erk Mead for one year where I worked in mental health screening, which further pushed me to want to have a career as a mental health professional. My goal in the long term is to work as a mental health and psychosocial support officer at UNICEF. What inspired me to want to work in mental health is my desire to help others who are struggling. Furthermore, I feel empathy towards children and adolescents who are struggling with their mental health and feel like they are misunderstood. Childhood and adolescence are a sensitive stage in the development lifespan and not getting the support they deserve can have a negative impact in later years. There is also a growing concern in Ethiopia of children and adolescents who are struggling with their mental health and feel as though they are misunderstood by their parents, teachers and peers which can lead to consequences such as isolating themselves, doing poorly in their academics and even worse, taking their own lives. With that being said, these inspired me to help them heal and know that they are not alone in their struggle.
