On November 1st, AWiB members attended an insightful seminar on “Office Politics,” led by Fitsum Atnafework Kidanemariam. The session delved into the dynamics of workplace relationships, the role of formal and informal communication channels, and how understanding organizational politics can empower individuals to navigate professional environments more effectively.

Participants explored office politics as the use of influence, communication, and relationships to achieve personal or organizational goals. It was noted that individuals with strong political skills tend to gain greater personal power and career advancement opportunities. However, unhealthy political behavior, especially when driven by competition for scarce resources, can negatively impact team performance and overall productivity.

The discussion also highlighted how unchecked organizational politics can lead to decreased efficiency, lower morale, and weakened collaboration. Participants reflected on the importance of aligning themselves with like-minded allies who share similar values and ethical leadership approaches.
