How hard could it be? [very]

I’ve always been a daydreamer; there are no limits to my imagination. I think, and then I think again. I’ve probably lived many lives in my head – walked a thousand paths without taking a step.
But turning one of those dreams into reality? That’s a fundamentally different experience. It takes guts and trust to gamble with your life and choose a path that alters it. That is exactly what I did when I decided to start a business.
Looking back, I was standing at a crossroads, foggy with too many dreams and thoughts. One thing I want to say is that it felt like anything was possible – and it was – but that, in itself, is a trap. You feel like you have infinite options and time to figure it all out, but hey, that’s a matrix we live in, right?
Anyway, my friend and I decided to start a decor and event planning business. The first step was to get the skills, and we did just that; we got certified. It was so exciting and motivating to finally move with a realistic purpose. Googling everything and asking questions like it was our job [because it kind of was]. Through that journey, we officially launched..
If anyone tells you starting a business is glamorous, they’re either lying or rich. And we are neither.
When we got our first phone call, we had forgotten we had started a business for a second. It was a hilarious moment I shared with my partner. Subsequently, we got our first booking. It solidified our professionalism and made us reach for the stars. Sound cliché? Maybe. But if you’ve been there, you know the feeling. As a writer, I tend to exaggerate and romanticize my emotions, but this being MY blog; bear with me.
It’s still fresh, but it’s thrilling to do everything for yourself and by yourself:
Planning, budgeting, executing, and dealing with the other, less aesthetic sides:
- Teaching yourself to be a better communicator
- Learning patience to deal with different kinds of clients
- Dealing with the disappointment of canceled service.
I still don’t know what I’m doing half the time, but I show up. I learn and I adjust every day. I compensate for my shortcomings. But, I wouldn’t have done it any other way, “girl-bossing” without a map, and with a partner that shares my vision.
I honestly don’t know what the future brings, but I am ready for it.
