Giving and Receiving Constructive Feedback

Giving and Receiving Constructive Feedback
Constructive feedback is a statement intended to improve or correct other people to recognize their weaknesses and grow. When done well, it can pave the way for healthier and collaborative relationships. But giving and receiving feedback even if it’s well-intentioned and constructive, can be a bit of a struggle for many of us.
For leaders who want to improve their team’s productivity they need to give their honest feedback. It certainly is difficult to tell people something they probably don’t want to hear but constructive feedback is one of the most impactful ways people can learn & get better. It is always important to focus on the idea not the person. Preparation and setting the tone of voice are also very effective.
When we are on the receiving end of the constructive feedback, it is natural for us to feel vulnerable. It may feel impossible not to perceive the feedback as a personal attack. However, it is important to recognize the feedback is an opportunity for growth and improvement.
