Metasebia \’Meti\’ Shewaye Yilma – President

Metasebia Shewaye Yilma or Meti as many call her is AWiB’s President for 2018. Meti is an energetic woman who strives to live each moment with presence and passion. As a student of life, she is in constant learning and sharing, receiving and giving. She uses various platforms, including her works on media, AWiB and her social networks to fulfil her commitment for her own and others’ growth.

Meti is a media and communications professional currently running her newly established Pan-African multimedia production company, QUEENDOM.MEDIA. Through QUEENDOM.MEDIA, Meti produces TV shows, documentaries, people and company profiles, commercials and more including her own experiential travel show Let’s Go which she also hosts. Meti is building QUEENDOM.MEDIA to be a one-stop village for creativity and collaboration on multimedia content research, development, production and distribution in Africa. It will create an ecosystem of creative community who will be the force behind several educational, informative, entertaining and transforming productions that will be aired on various broadcasting platforms, mainly television.Let\’s Go with Meti will start airing its upcoming season on Fana TV soon.

Meti’s journey in media has started as a continuity announcer in Ethiopian Television for the Amharic and English transmissions at the age of 19. Meti has co-founded, produced and hosted various radio shows including Tadias Addis on Sheger 102.1 FM, Hawari Travel Show on Fana FM 98.1 and In and Around with Meti on Afro 105.3 FM. She was a journalist on TimeOut Addis and The Seychelles Independent. She also appeared as a co-host on Destinations Africa and Studio 53, continental shows on DSTV. Meti was the only Ethiopian contestant and 3rd runner up on the continental reality show on DSTV, Survivor Africa in Panama, in 2007.

As communications professional, Meti was employed by various local and international organizations such as UNHCR, the US Government CDC-Ethiopia, Network of Ethiopian Women’s Associations (NEWA), Save the Children USA and more. She has also worked with number of institutions on a freelance basis such as Marathon Motor Engineering (an exclusive Hyundai dealer in Ethiopia), LivePress (a Seychelles based publication app developer), Cactus Advertising and Marketing Agency, Ethiopian ICT Development Agency (on World IT Forum 2007), AIDS Resource Centre and many more.

As an EMCEE and moderator, Meti has hosted number of high level corporate and social events in Amharic and English. Currently, she moderates Dr. Mehiret Debebe’s Public Lecture Series every Thursday (expect 1st Thursday of each month on which she leads AWiB’s monthly event). Few among the many high level events, few are the 10th Stop Cervical, Breast and Prostate Cancer In Africa Conference organized by The Office of the 1st Lady of Ethiopia in July 2016, the 4th Africa Business Forum in June 2016, AWiB’s 6th Women of Excellence on 29th October 2017 & 4th on 25th October 2015, Africa Business Forum in January 2017, Fundraising Gala Dinner for Friends of Seychelles in Seychelles in July 2015, Addis International Film Festival in 2017, 2014 and 2009, Africa Development Forum (ADF VI) in 2008.

Meti is a seasoned toastmaster and the first woman in Ethiopia to deliver over 30 speeches and reach Able Communicator Silver (ACS). Upon request, Meti delivers motivational speeches and gives trainings on communication, media appearance and public speaking.

Meti is a daughter of conscious, loving and strong parents, Shewaye and Yilma, a sister of 3 compassionate, grounded and supportive siblings and a mother of an observant adorable daughter who keeps her on check, growing, and fascinated. Meti is fascinated by human potential and highly engaged in self-reflection, self-transformation and self-mastery.
